2011
Just over a week into the career break and it’s been great so far. I started with a few house chores but managed to move quickly on to a couple of days away in Suffolk near to Dunwich and Southwold.
The plan was to go and tackle the Bassett series of caches, a series that has been on my radar for a while. I gave these a go on Monday and they didn’t disappoint. The first of them shall we say took a little bravery, should I really be doing what I was about to do? Sod it.
I followed these with a walk around Southwold and a trip along the peer before heading off for a night camping at Sizewell. There’s nothing like a camp site in the shadow of two nuclear reactors! Really though the Cliff House Camp site and beach there are lovely, I’d recommend them to anyone.
I loved camping right next to the beach. The weather was very still and so overnight there was quite a frost. Me and Vern had to share the site with another campervan and a caravan, how rude.
Last week I bought a MiFi router and cancelled my 3G iPad subscription. MiFi is a small device that give you a wireless network for up to 5 devices while it connects to 3G. So while in Vern I now have wireless internet connectivity for all my devices and it’s brilliant. I was even able to FaceTime to Helena back home, yep I have videoconferencing in my camper, hi-tech or what!
This hi-tech allowed me to log my caches and get a mail from the owner telling me there was another series. So on Tuesday I headed off, after sausages for breakfast, and tackled the Dunwich Forest set of caches, 10 of them. After a bite of lunch in Vern I then tackled the second set of Bassett caches. These are truly stunning. Mr Bassett has taken caching to another level. He’s developed caches that have to be tried. I found all but one of them. The one I missed was locked and I couldn’t work out the code. I have it now I’m sure so I will be going back.
I’m home today but might just have to go off again tomorrow.
Bring it on.
Week 1 and a bit!
